They both first met when Beaver ran into Cherry causing him to crash into Smile, Cherry, not knowing, took Smile's phone, and Smile took Cherry's phone. Smile later noticed this while walking back home, once in her shared room, Mari being asked to find it, tracked it to the mall, in which Juri called Smile's phone from then. With Cherry hesitant to pick up Beaver did for him. From then they got their phones back.
Being on the next day, Smile and her sisters were at the mall, they were sitting when they noticed Cherry. Smile decided to pursue him, the sister followed. They soon found out that they were writing haiku, and thus Cherry hesitantly spoke out his haiku. Once he finished Mr Fujiyama yelled, pointing at the three sisters, revealing Smile and her sisters watching. From then they became friends.
